Biden Lied about the Threat of Nuclear War

Biden Lied about the Risk of Nuclear War

By Ann Batiza

As Adam Entous wrote on March 29, 2025, in the New York Times, “The Secret History of the War in Ukraine”, the Biden administration lied to us constantly about the real threat of nuclear war. The quote below from Entous’s article, based on 300 interviews, shows how the Biden administration knew they were operating with a 1 in 20 or 1 in 10 chance that their actions in Ukraine would lead to a nuclear response from Russia, with that soaring to a 50/50 chance if the Ukrainians were successful.

“In October [of 2022], with leeway to act within Crimea itself, the C.I.A. covertly started supporting drone strikes on the port of Sevastopol.

“That same month, U.S. intelligence overheard Russia’s Ukraine commander, Gen. Sergei Surovikin, talking about indeed doing something desperate: using tactical nuclear weapons to prevent the Ukrainians from crossing the Dnipro and making a beeline to Crimea.

“Until that moment, U.S. intelligence agencies had estimated the chance of Russia’s using nuclear weapons in Ukraine at 5 to 10 percent. Now, they said, if the Russian lines in the south collapsed, the probability was 50 percent.”

At no time, did the Biden administration tell the American people how close we came to nuclear war.

This article by Entous also shows this was a proxy war in which American generals, holed up in a gymnasium in Germany, explicitly told the Ukrainians where troops were to move and where they would shoot, often with American supplied weapons.

In President Biden’s April 28, 2022, address to Congress to request more funds for the war, President Biden explicitly denied both that this was a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia, and that a provoked Russia posed any threat of a nuclear war.

In response to a comment, “Lavrov himself self says it’s already a proxy war — not a direct war but a proxy war,” President Biden said,

“So, it’s — number one, it’s an excuse for their [Russia’s] failure.  But number two, it’s also, if they really mean it, it’s — it’s — no — no one should be making idle comments about the use of nuclear weapons or the possibility that they’d use that.  It’s irresponsible.”

As Matt Taibbi wrote on Substack about the Entous article on March 31, “… the main revelation involves one gigantic, inexcusable deception. From Joe Biden down, they all lied about the risk of World War III.”
