✊ Our Commitment to Social Justice

Peace Action Wisconsin is a grassroots organization dedicated to building a world free from violence, exploitation, and oppression. We work to:

  • Abolish nuclear weapons and shut down nuclear power
  • End militarism and war profiteering
  • Dismantle systems of racism, sexism, classism, and colonialism
  • Stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and oppressed nations
  • Defend the rights of nature and link climate justice with demilitarization
  • Oppose corporate greed, environmental racism, and labor exploitation
  • Support human rights movements locally, nationally, and globally

πŸ“– Our Story

Peace Action Wisconsin began in March 1977 as the Mobilization for Survival, part of a national network resisting nuclear weapons and power. We opposed the arms race and supported social justice movements demanding a reallocation of military spending to meet human needs.

In 1996, we joined National Peace Action, formed from the SANE/Freeze movement to abolish nuclear weapons. By 1999, we became Peace Action Wisconsin, with a grassroots mission focused on resisting war and promoting public peace education.

From the start, we’ve embraced nonviolence as the path to justice, equity, and sustainability.
