Statement of Respect to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and all Native Nations

We acknowledge in Milwaukee that we are on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Menominee homeland, and with respect to the Anishinabe, Oneida, Mohican and other First Nations of Wisconsin. We honor and support indigenous people. We also acknowledge that this area was once a stop on the Underground Railroad,   For enslaved Africans, the Milwaukee River, like other Wisconsin waterways, was a pathway to freedom.

International Yemen Can't Wait Online Rally

Webinar logoMarch 25, 2023 at 11 AM CT

https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_hC-VPtNqSvGL9gTubo4UXQ

March 25th marks the eighth anniversary of the beginning of the Saudi-led coalition's bombing of Yemen. We cannot let there be a ninth!

Please join a coalition of US and international groups including Peace Action, Yemen Relief and Reconstruction Foundation, Action Corps, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Stop the War UK, and more for an online rally to inspire and enhance education and activism to end the war in Yemen.

As we continue to push for a complete end to US support for the Saudi-led war, the next weeks and months will be critical. With the US Congress potentially poised to vote on a War Powers Resolution, should current negotiations between US Senator Bernie Sanders and the Biden Administration not yield a successful outcome, our advocacy and activism are extremely timely. And while we have not completely succeeded as of yet, we are helping save lives in Yemen. Every day the Saudi-led coalition refrains from resuming bombing, Yemeni lives are saved. But with a blockade in place severely limiting the ability of the Yemeni people to rebuild their lives and the country's economy, we cannot let up.

The Israeli Occupation Forces bombed Gaza last week. Join the global call on the U.S. to stop funding the ethnic cleansing of Palestine!

Dear President Biden Members of the U.S. Congress,

The events that transpired in Gaza last week make one thing clear: US taxpayer dollars that go to Israel in the form of $3.8 billion in military “aid” are being used to further harm and kill Palestinians. We, the undersigned, are demanding that the United States stops funding Israeli war crimes and human rights abuses and halt all weapons sales to the occupation.

Your administration insists that it cares deeply about human rights around the globe, yet you refuse to hold Israeli occupation accountable for its daily human rights abuses.

The slaughter and daily assault on Palestinian human rights being carried out by Israel is an unacceptable use of US taxpayer dollars. We demand an end to U.S. collaboration in the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

US Members of Congress like Representatives Betty McCollum, Chuy Garcia, Marie Newman, Rashida Tlaib and several others have called for the conditioning of aid to Israel. The concept of revoking or halting aid is not new, and it is supported by many lawmakers and their constituents. We call on Congress to suspend all aid and block any weapons sale that gets announced to the occupation.

US taxpayers pay Israel over 10 million dollars a day, and Israel uses that money to inflict violence all over Palestine. We call you to halt this “aid” and demand that Israel stop its assault on Gaza, its evictions in East Jerusalem, and its attacks on Al-Aqsa. We demand that not one more tax payer dollar gets sent to fund apartheid and anti-Palestinian violence. We look forward to seeing how you will carry out these demands.

Peace Action WI Joins U.S. National Call in Support of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear WeaponsSign the Statement on the Existential Threat of Nuclear Weapons & Treaty Prohibition by June 7 | Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice The campaign - ICAN

In the face of widespread concern about the threat of nuclear weapons, World BEYOND War joins with organizations and individuals across the country in releasing the following statement:

STATEMENT ON THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
AND ON THE TREATY ON THE PROHIBITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The power to initiate a global apocalypse lies in the hands of the leaders of nine nations. As 122 nations of the world indicated when they adopted the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in July, 2017, this is unacceptable.

As concerns about the threat of nuclear weapons re-enter the public consciousness, it is important to know that humankind is not without an answer to the nuclear threat. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which entered into force on January 22, 2021, provides a clear pathway to the elimination of the nuclear threat.

We call on all nuclear armed states to take immediate steps to:

  • engage the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons,
  • attend the First Meeting of States Parties, and
  • sign, ratify and implement the Treaty.

We also call on the U.S. media to recognize the existence of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and to include the Treaty in discussions, articles, and editorials regarding the nuclear threat and methods available to address it.

The Statement has been endorsed by Peace Action WI and organizations representing hundreds of thousands of people in the United States as well as by a growing list of individuals. A list of signatories can be found at nuclearbantreaty.org.

Peace Action WI also encourages support for this  Global Appeal to Nine Nuclear Governments, and recommends participating in these events:

President Biden should do more immediately.  He should relax sanctions on Afghanistan and increase humanitarian aid through the United Nations. Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, has warned that millions of Afghans are on the “verge of death,” 22.8 million Afghans – or more than half of the country’s population – will face acute food insecurity this winter and one million children risk dying of malnutrition.

Pass H.J.Res. 87 and S.J.Res. 56 to end U.S. participation in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

🥳 Peace and Justice for Yemen🥳 - CODEPINK - Women for Peace

On May 31, 2022, Reps. Peter DeFazio (OR-4), Pramila Jayapal (WA-7), Adam Schiff (CA-28), and Nancy Mace (SC-1) introduced H.J.Res. 87, a bill to end U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led war and blockade in Yemen. On July 14, 2022, Sens. Bernie Sanders (VT), Patrick Leahy (VT), and Elizabeth Warren (MA) introduced an identical resolution (S.J.Res. 56) in the Senate. The war has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, and over 16 million people are on the brink of famine. While the warring parties have entered a temporary truce, Congress must ensure an end to U.S. support for the war and prevent the truce from breaking.

Pass H.J.Res. 87 and S.J.Res. 56 to end U.S. participation in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

The war has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, and over 16 million people are on the brink of famine. While the warring parties have thankfully entered a temporary truce, Congress must act to ensure an end to U.S. support for the war and prevent the truce from breaking.

On Feb. 4, 2021, President Biden announced that the U.S. would end its support for the coalition’s offensive operations in Yemen, but important aspects of U.S. complicity remain. This includes ongoing maintenance and intelligence sharing for warplanes conducting airstrikes and enforcing an air and sea blockade of Yemen.

Bipartisan majorities in both chambers of Congress passed a Yemen War Powers Resolution in 2019 to end U.S. support for the Saudi-led war. President Trump vetoed this resolution, but United Nations officials say that congressional action helped promote peace negotiations.  Now, Congress has an historic opportunity to help end U.S participation in one of the most devastating wars in the world.

We urge Congress to pass H.J.Res. 87 and S.J.Res. 56 to terminate unauthorized military involvement in the Saudi-led coalition’s war and blockade.

The War Powers Act must be invoked because:

  • U.S. pressure will ensure Saudi Arabia remains at the negotiating table to turn the truce into a permanent end to the war.
  • The war has led to a humanitarian disaster. Nearly 24 million people are in need of emergency assistance.
  • The war and blockade are killing Yemeni civilians. The UN estimated that the Yemen war led to 377,000 deaths in 2021—nearly 60% of those due to indirect causes such as disruptions in access to food, clean water, and medicine.
  • Yemen’s children are being starved. The UN warned in 2021 that 2.3 million children are suffering from acute malnutrition. 400,000 of these children could die of starvation without urgent action.

Because it's 100 seconds to midnight,

The threat of nuclear war is now higher than it was during the Cold War.
That’s according to former Defense Secretary William Perry -- who is no peacenik.

That’s why it’s more urgent than ever that our Representatives institute a policy of No First Use and No Sole Authority in order to reduce the grave peril posed by nuclear weapons. Ask your Senators and Representative and Congressional leadership to support legislation to institute a United States policy of No First Use of nuclear weapons.

It’s important that we act now. President Joe Biden's Nuclear Posture Review is underway, and it will determine his administration’s approach to nuclear policy. If we want to avoid a devastating nuclear war, we need to demonstrate broad public support for a policy of No First Use. Call and Email Congress to tell them to support a No First Use policy for nuclear weapons!

There are two bills in Congress, the Markey-Lieu Bill (S.1148, HR.669) and the Warren-Smith Bill (S.1219, HR.2603), that would institute a No First Use Policy. These bills should be uncontroversial for anyone who wants to avoid a potentially disastrous nuclear war. Yet, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer haven’t used their leadership to make sure these bills get a vote. Call on your Representatives to institute a policy of No First Use and demand that Pelosi and Schumer bring the bills to a vote!
