Description

A multi-media one-man show featuring international human rights attorney Eric Sirotkin, Executive Producer of the Best Human Rights and Poetry Film of the Year: Committing Poetry in Times of War. Lawyer Charged with Committing Poetry follows free speech zones, police riots and poets in the classroom and the streets who band together in support of their first amendment right to self-expression in a post 9-11 world. It presents Sirotkin’s client, high school teacher and poetry slam coach, Bill Nevins, who was fired for refusing to censor student expression about the war in Iraq. Excerpts from the film weave together with an inspirational performance on the power of creativity in social activism. The trial of the century!

To “commit poetry” is to live a poetic life filled with creativity, imagination and rhythmic grace. The production inspires people to use their “good heads and good hearts” to make change and live more hopeful in troubled times.

An open mic follows: Share your opinions, poetry or words.
