Peace Action-Wisconsin and National Peace Action work together on local, national and international levels to help create a more just and peaceful world.

We call for a new US foreign policy based on diplomacy and negotiation, human rights, and a serious commitment to the abolition of nuclear weapons.

Locally, Currently our program work focuses on ending the US military occupation of Iraq and preventing a war on Iran. Active committees meet monthly to organize lobbying, demonstrations, and educational events on the following issues:

Disarmament Committee: Focuses on nuclear disarmament, stopping development of new nuclear weapons and the militarization of space. This committee also addresses othe disarmament issues, such as land mines, cluster bombs, depleted uranium weapons, and the issues of nuclear power and nuclear waste disposal.

Middle East Peace Committee: Addresses a just solution to the Israeli/Palestinian
conflict. Provides speakers on the issue to churches and community groups, sponsors nationally touring guest speakers, and lobbies for a more just US policy to address the issue and end the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

Counter-Recruitment, Draft and CO:
Addresses the misleading promises of military recruiters, alternatives for the military, the possibility of a draft, and how to declare oneself a Conscientious Objector to war. Works to bring information into local high schools and provides counseling on conscientious objection.

School of the Americas Watch: Part of the national movement to close the US Army training school for Latin American soldiers. Organizes lobbying trips to DC and buses to annual vigil to close the SOA/WHISC at Fort Benning, Ga.

Peace Action launched the Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace after September 11, 2001. Through the coalition, we address the roots of terrorism, and ways to create real security through a just and nonviolent foreign policy.
